The Alien Reads

& the feline judges

  • It is always a shocker when a child of a famous person can also have talent.

Joe Hill been the son of Stephen King and not wanting to be recognized as such tells you alot by the person.

This was my first read by Joe Hill abd ever since he has been one of my favorites, he writes horror and fiction just beautifully, while he will never be King, he has earned his own in the horror genre.

    SPOILERS AHEAD

This short story starts as a couple who just moved out of the city to a small town in the country, the house its an older farmhouse and the town is quite charmingand rustic, the couple has just lost a baby via miscarriage and their marriage hasnt fully recovered yet.

The husband find an antique Pram and (stroller) becomes extremely obsessed with it. Dark things surround the Pram and the main character slowly decends into madness.

This is about grief and obsession, as well as good old horror. Its a lovely short read, that if you have the chance try it.

The feline gives it 5 toe beans. Its an amazing short read that will keeper you hooked to Joe Hill.

  • Let’s just start this is normally not a genre that I read, but I enjoyed it the entire time. LitRPGs is a weird genre for me to read, I am now a convert.

    SPOILERS AHEAD

It starts with Carl and his ex girlfriend cat Princess Donut Queen Ann Chonk aka Donut a spoiled Persian cat that runs outside in the snow. Carl with only his leather jacket and pink crocks he runs outside to get her back saving him from the end of the world. And the beginning of the crawl. The dungeon is terrifying and it changes them both like Donut turns to a talking cat. In this adventure they find themselves they meet other crawlers but friendly and foes.

Not to give yall too many spoilers, this is a must read, an adventure read that gives you all the emotions, I laughed out loud, I cried.

The characters are very complex and rounded, each character is not shallow they have back stories, and the world building is excellent.

Even though this is not a genre I gravitate to,  I enjoyed it very much and I recommend anyone to try it.

The feline gives it 4 toe beans only because the next books are better.

  • If you like disturbing books that leave you asking yourself.. pardon my French what the #$@^ did I just read? This is for you.

This novel was translated in 2020 which is ironic because this story takes place in a dystopian universe of your human world, where a disease eradicated our food supply and pets.

    SPOILERS AHEAD.

Our main character Marcos is a vegan living in world where all the animals have basically died off because of a disease so people have to either become cannibals or vegans, his wife is having an affair with a butcher after the death of their infant son which she is not able to have more children, on top of the fact that due to his father’s dementia he has to run a slaughter house.

He decides in a moment of desperation in what seems to be compassion steal one of the cattle. A young woman.. barely out of her teens, he rapes her..and grooms her, the woman starts to care for him.. and he only want one thing from her. Something his wife can no longer give him.

This novel is disturbing in the worst way, it messes with your mind thinking he is a good man, he cares and somehow still has his humanity but its all a lie.

I read this book in 2021.. I still think about it 5 years later, it is not a long read at all, it the psychology of humans that disturb me the most, how wicked humans can be towards each other, how easily they can get rid of such things that makes them human.

This is an amazing story and I think every human adult should read it like catcher in the rye necessary read. Because it questions your moral code to the max what would you do if you were in his shoes.

The feline is as distributed as me when he read this novel he gives it 5 toe beans.

Go read it. You won’t be disappointed

  • What happened to a reader when or if  they go to hell?

This is what this short novella is about a simple idea that makes you think about yourself,  reality and what it means to be human or alien in my case.

    SPOILERS AHEAD.

Our main character Soren Johansson a faithful Mormon realized he chose the wrong religion thus he was in hell. His hell was a giant library size of eternity.. his job was to read every single book until he finds his perfect description of his life.

Him and many others started this quest, as the days passed he meets a lady he likes, eventually they try to escape only to realize it was in vain.

The story end with no end. All you know that he is still in hell and he hasnt found his story.

This novella.. is a existencial crisis type of book. Imagine been in a library as huge as you can possibly think, it has no end and no begining. Its eternal, all those books and nothing good to read its terrifying. Literally my worst nightmare well that and having to watch Twiglight seriously humans what is up with Twiglight? Who thought that was a good idea? Nvm im getting side tracked.

Like I was saying this is a great fast read 108 or so pages that makes you think and makes you hope/wish you picked the right religion 👏 all im saying the feline worship l religion is where is at.

    Speaking of the feline…

The feline gives this 4 toe bean rating.

Its an amazing read for anyone that has questions about life after death…

  • Is there such a thing as a heartwarming horror? Well there is now. This pulled on my heart strings while at the same time scarying me.

David Sodergren did an amazing job again with this story,  this is a story that will make you think,  be angered by the circumstances that the main character faces and sadden by them to.

    SPOILERS AHEAD…

It starts with a lonely grandma living in a cottage by the sea, her husband was a fisherman who got lost at sea, son was an adult and never visited.

When a rich man comes and buys off all the small farms around her home to build a golf course she denies her leaving her home he threatens her only then she finds the haar a supernatural creature that takes the form of her husband only a much younger version and her revenge is on.

This is gritty, sad and scary. It made me cry, and cheer for the main character while I read this back in 2024 and it stuck with me mostly made me think of the injustice that the common people endure by the rich.

Anyways this was an amazing read.

The feline gives it 4.5 stars..

I hope you aliens read it…

  • An oldie but goodie this story is read a while ago whoever it stayed with me like many good stories often do. They haunt you like a ghost, begging not to be forgotten and how could I forget this one.  This one scared me..a bit

Jack is a blue collar man living in the deep south when his daughter starts seen the same entity he did as a child his whole life changes for the worst.

There is nothing more scary than a possessed kid. And this gives you that a man that is running from the devil, can the devil really be outrun?

This book is a roller-coaster ride, between the animal mutilation, possessed children and family secrets this book truly delivers.

It’s a fast paced,  horror book fun read.

The feline gives it a whooping 4 stars great read.

  • I adored this story this is my first V.E Shwab novel and while I normally do not read children’s books/ middle grade fantasy. I was very pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this.

    SPOILERS AHEAD..

Your story starts with Cassidy a middle school girl who can see ghost and her best friend is a ghost, she can also travel between the living and the dead worlds. Her parents are paranormal investigators that call themselves inspecters. They get a job where they will be filming a paranormal show, her parents can’t see ghost and want to communicate with them. Cassidy can and wants nothing to do with it. The irony of it so cute.

In the first episode is filmed in Edinburgh Scotland, the city of ghost. There Cassidy discovers she is not the only one with such power of traveling between worlds. And is been haunted by a malevolent ghost who seeks to steal her life. And with the power of friendship and love no joke there she survives. Only to realize there might be more to her best friend than it seems.

Over all I love this book it was cute and charming with a bit of the paranormal that I love. Im definitely reading the next book in the series..

The feline gives this novel a 4 starts

Ah, another novel by Uketsu. I honestly don’t understand my obsession with reading series books. I wasn’t a huge fan of his first book, *Strange Pictures*—it wasn’t bad, just didn’t have enough grit for me—and yet here I am diving into his next novel.

WARNING FELLOW ALIENS SPOILERS AHEAD… YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

It begins with Uketsu as a character this whole novel reads in a weird mix of a play and first person, it was an interesting take to see.

Our author receives an email from a friend about a house she wants to buy but decides not to due to the weird layout of the house, our author goes on a rabbit hole to uncover why the house is build the way it was. In time he meets a woman who claims to know what happened in such strange house, and along another architect friend they find out the dark family secrets that this woman holds.

That’s the gist of it, family secrets, lies and curses. Real or not those curses are the real curse was honestly reading this. Again, if you want to read an easy novel that will take you in a small, wonderful ride of intrigue and obsession then yes this is for you.

As for me my dear fellow aliens it’s not. The plot seems shallow yes there was a “curse” and a “ghost” aspect of it but honestly, I didn’t get the true horror aspect there wasnt any true horror involved and the end well… the end left you with more questions than answers and not truly wrapped up like the first book of the series.

The feline concludes that the score for this is 3 stars.

Yes, is less than the last novel but truly because the last novel actually kept you coming back even though it also felt rushed and lacking.

Question is will I read his next novel? not sure, probably will though.

This is the first finished book of the 2026.

This was interesting to say the least.

While it reads like a creepypasta, it’s an easy and calming read

SPOILERS AHEAD READ AT YOUR OWN RISK… YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

The story starts with a little girl, and a psychiatrist explaining the picture the little girl drew. Then it jumps to two college students trying to figure out a strange blog, that ends with cryptic message and a collection of strange pictures that basically will explain of what happened to the author of the blog.

Then it cuts off to single mom with a young boy, in their day to day the mother realizes she is been followed. Then it cuts off to a retired reporter and his replacement talking about a murder that was never solved, and the only clue of the culprit is a strange picture found on the victim.

long story short to be fair I don’t want to spoil the entire book I recommend you read this story keeps you guessing on how it’s all connected and who did it.

Overall, the plot is good the way you get to the end is great however it leaves me wanting more. It was too “jumpy” for me it was hard to find the flow of the story until the very end. It was then when everything came together and it was the aha! moment.

In the end this alien gives it a 3.5-star rating however the feline gives a side eye.
